Artist statement

I try to capture the spirit and energy I feel in nature and its people past, present and future…the changes, the determination, the connection between nature's rhythm and ourselves.

Having rebuilt my home and studio from flooding during tropical storm Irene in August of 2011, I feel an even greater connection and kinship to those that have also endured loss to natural disasters. It's a humbling experience. I am grateful to have met countless volunteers and workers who generously gave their time and talent to help rebuild. In the process, I have grown closer to my Mad River Valley community and accept the unpredictable force of nature.

I find when I work with either watercolor or acrylic it too can be unpredictable. I can't fuss over details (it dries quickly) or risk losing its freshness—it's a call to let go.

Each piece I create is an ode of deep gratitude to life, Vermont, and its community—wherever you call home, may you feel it and be happy too.
